monster sushi
Big rolls (hence the name 'monster') and a fun atmosphere. Low prices help attract a fun crowd, which can be good or bad, depending on your point-of-view.

When will everyone learn that you simply can't get something for nothing in this world?! There is a reason the size of the sushi is so large yet so cheap. The reason? Low quality and cheap tasting fish. Secondly, sushi is not meant to be the size of your fist. I would much rather go to AYCE sushi than go here. This is Americanized sushi at its finest.

This place is horrible!!! They can't even make a real futomaki right. The portion is huge but no quality. The cooked entrees are overpriced. Careful with places like this. They claimed to be Japanese restaurants but they are run by non-Japanese. If you want low quality sushi this place is definitely for you. I bet you the sushi preparer at this place is one of those who took a sushi crash course.

Monster Sushi must have gotten its name from the monsterously large slices of sashimi and Godzilla sizd Futomaki rolls. This is the only resturant I have been in (sushi realted) that I have left stuffed. The Sashimi Deluxe (17.95) comes with approx 14 piesces of fish, a bowl rice and a large portion of daikon radish. If you have a wonderfully hot shrimp shumai and a bottle of saporro or a warm saki, you will be full. The Decor is campy, the Staff is quick, English is spotty.Clean Bathrooms, relaxed dining. Chelsea branch is the best of the lot.

The sushi is good and the service is fast and it is a convenient place. They have a bit more selection of unusual items than some places. The sushi isn't really all that monstrous, so the name is a bit of a misnomer. The service is rude, though -- they placed us at a table in the middle and kept bugging me relentlessly to move my bag, but there was nowhere to put it, so I told them they shouldn't even seat people at that table!!

A decent selection aside from the famous Monster Roll. For something a little different, I liked the Calamari Roll myself. Haven't been to any of the other locations but wish they played up the theme a little more. In a word, this is a place that has potential.

My advice is to stick to sitting at the bar; the waitresses at the tables are overly zealous. Last time I went, it was near closing time and they must have let us know it was last call about a dozen times.

This really is a sad situation, but I will present both sides. Americans need to chill on portion size and the monter is no exception. Sushi should be a delicate eating journey, not an all-you-can-stuff -into-your-bouche/watch-out--here-comes-the-unzip, or worse.
Ok, now for the other side: for those of you out there who can eat enormous portions, and beg for more (bless you) this is your place. Good bang for your buck... (burp:)

Why there isn't a wait for this place I cannot imagine--but I' sort of glad there isn't..it's my FAVORITE place to eat lunch. Great sushi and sashimi at great prices. You can get a sashimi appetizer that is HUGE, with rice for under $10. Their CREAMY salad dressing is addictive! Good white tuna rools, and the Jan roll is anotehr favorite. Decor is simple.
